A SENSE OF HUMOUR IN SPEECH
When facing a problem, a touchy question, or any issue that needs to be treated tactfully, different people have different approaches. Statesmen, heads of states, high-born individuals seem to add some sense of humor to their speech to make the big problems they are dealing with sound less serious....

Take a look at some of their following sayings to see the humour which they created accidentally or on purpose, and the wit of these great gentlemen and ladies.

“She sounds a bit too grand for us.”
(Queen Elizabeth II’s comment on Princess Michael of Kent that imply the princess’ excessive pride in herself)

“Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
(Diana, Princess of Wales’ famous response to Martin Bashir’s question: “Do you think Mrs Parker-Bowles was a factor in the breakdown of your marriage?” in a BBC1 Panorama interview in November 1995)

“Being president is like running a cemetery: you’ve got a lot of people under you and nobody’s listening.”
(Former American President Bill Clinton’s saying about his presidency)

“I’m just preparing my impromptu remarks.”
(Sir Winston Churchill jokingly makes use of “prepare” and “impromptu”.)

“They misunderestimated me.”
(Former American President George W. Bush seems to mix “misunderstand” and “underestimate” to form a completely new word and the so-called “Bushism”.)

“You can have any colour you want as long as it is black.”
(Car-maker Henry Ford said to one of his customers.)

“I have nothing to declare except my genius.”
(Oscar Wilde talked to an American customs officer.)

“I’ve never sent her flowers. If I sent her flowers, she would get worried.”
(Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair explained why he never sent flowers to his wife in an interview on Channel4 TV in 2005)
